9 Natural Wellness Trends To Embrace This Year

Natural wellness trends from Goodness Me Box

Gone are the days when natural wellness trends could only be found at health retreats or the Byron Bay hinterland. What was once a small niche has transformed into a burgeoning market of brands offering cleaner and greener alternatives to the mass produced fads of the past.

With the help of Peta Shulman, founder of GoodnessMe, we’ve rounded the top natural wellness trends from 2020 so you can shop knowing you’re doing good for yourself and the planet.

Watermelon Seed Butter

Nut butter, tahini and chia jam are often top of mind when it comes to natural wellness trends. However there’s an unexpected newcomer that will have you rethinking your toast routine. The new trend to look out for is…. watermelon seed butter. Yes, you heard that right! The little black seed can be ground into a tahini-like spread and is packed with nutrients, making it a surprisingly delicious addition to your pantry.

Adaptogens

Although adaptogens such as medicinal mushrooms and tonic herbs have been used for thousands of years, they are making a resurgence as one of the top natural wellness trends in 2020.

Adaptogens are natural substances that may help the body adapt to environmental and psychological stresses and support major systems such as the adrenal glands. Some of our all-time favourites include Lion’s Mane, Ashwagandha and Ginseng; which help moderate the body’s energy and stress levels.

Jackfruit

This tropical fruit has become an extremely popular meat alternative for vegans and vegetarians, and we don’t see this slowing any time soon. Jackfruit boasts a texture similar to pulled pork or shredded chicken, which is what makes it a great substitute for a variety of dishes and cuisines.

Lymphatic Health

The lymphatic system is our body’s ‘sewerage system’. It maintains fluid levels in our body tissues by removing all fluids that leak out of our blood vessels.

Peta Shulman, founder of GoodnessMe, recommends drinking a minimum of 2L of water per day to improve lymphatic health, and flush out toxins. When it comes to wellness hacks, she recently discovered gua sha, which is great for lymphatic drainage and depuffing the face. It’s a great morning or nigh time routine which also comes with added relaxation benefits.

Sleep elixirs

Sleep elixirs consist of a blend of herbs, spices and adaptogens and have become one of the go-to ways to wind down in the evening. They promote a restful sleep by calming your body and reducing anxiety. Sleep elixirs come in a bunch of different varieties that you can mix with hot water or nut milk before bed to ensure a calm and restful sleep.

Lunar Lattes

Sometimes referred to as ‘mermaid lattes’, lunar lattes are similar to sleep elixirs in that they contain a naturally calming ingredients to help you unwind and relax before bed.

This nourishing, night-time moon milk has a smooth vanilla flavour with mild lavender undertones and a subtle hint of crystal salt. What’s more, they don’t contain any added sugar or sweeteners, so they are the perfect replacement for your tea or hot choccy in the evening.

Alternative flours

Chances are you’ve already come across flour made from things like cauliflower, chickpea, hemp and banana—and you better believe there’ll be plenty more alternatives to come! We’re excited to discover more natural flour alternatives that make at-home baking more creative and of course, healthier.

Oat milk

One of the more encouraging trends in recent years is consumers becoming more aware of how their purchasing behaviour impacts the environment. Oat milk has become one of the fastest growing natural wellness trends because of its lower carbon footprint compared to cow’s and almond milk. Plus, it’s got a sweet, creamy texture making it a delicious alternative for your coffees or smoothies!

Collagen

There’s been a surge in the popularity of collagen and ingestible beauty supplements in the past few years. Collagen is the most abundant protein present in the human body, responsible for healthy hair, skin and nails. One of the best ways to get your collagen fix is through nourishing bone broth which is also great for immunity and gut health.
