Cauliflower used to be the forgotten vegetable you’d happily leave off your shopping list. The once unwanted relative of Broccoli, Cauliflower recipes are making a kitchen comeback – and for good reason.
Cauliflower is one of the most versatile cooking staples, making it a great for roasting, tossed into salads or as a natural flour alternative when baking. Besides, anyone who thinks a plant based diet can’t be delicious, probably hasn’t discovered Deliciously Ella or Plant Proof yet.
From a nutrition standpoint, the profile of Cauliflower is also quite impressive. Cauliflower is very low in calories yet high in vitamins. In fact, cauliflower contains some of almost every vitamin and mineral that you need.
We’ve teamed up with PomPom Paddock to share 5 simple cauliflower recipes you can make for your next dinner party.
Gluten-free vegetarian pizza
Bursting with flavour and beautiful veggies, this vegan, gluten-free pizza is the perfect Friday night indulgence. As the saying goes, ‘If cauliflower can become pizza, you too can do anything’. We couldn’t agree more, the humble vegetable is a great alternative to flour, especially for those who have gluten intolerances.
Rather than ordering a pizza, make your own and get your partner (or the kids) involved, by helping you make the dough and choosing the toppings, it’s a fun experience the whole family will enjoy.
In a mixer with paddle attachment, combine the dry ingredients for the pizza base and mix well. Spread the dough with the pesto then scatter the olives, tomatoes, baby spinach if using and cheese. Season lightly with salt and pepper and drizzle with a little olive oil before transferring the pizza, on the baking paper to the preheated baking tray and into the oven. Cook for 6 minutes or until the cheese starts to brown.
Buffalo cauliflower wings
As we mentioned, cauliflower has a neutral taste, so it’s easy to pair with anything you desire – like buffalo wings. It has a meaty texture, which has proven to be a great plant-based alternative to meat, full of flavour & bite. Buffalo cauliflower wings are fun to eat and look like nuggets!
Simply, mix up some corn starch and mild spices like garlic & onion powder, salt and pepper, bake them up until golden and serve them with your favourite sauce.
Yes, you read it right. You can do more with cauliflower recipes than just savoury foods. With more vegetable-based flours popping up, now cauliflower has made its way into our pantries in the form of flour!
