These Luxury Designed Eco Apartments Are The Perfect Hotel Alternative

The Fern is Australia's first Passivhaus designed apartments

If you’re an eco-conscious traveller looking to cut your carbon footprint, accomodation is probably not your first consideration. After all, it’s probably more convenient to offset your carbon with your airline, and base your choice of stay on comfort or location over environmental impact.

But what if there was a way your accomodation could be comfy and tick the green box? Urban Rest Apartments has just launched ‘The Fern’, the first serviced apartment building of its kind in Australia that boasts impressive environmental credentials made possible by its Passivhaus design approach.

What is Passivhaus?

The Passivhaus approach is emphasised by its airtightness, strong glazing, solar panels and better thermal regulation. These factors resulting in a sustainable building that naturally regulates the internal temperature without relying on artificial heating or cooling.

With 11 self-contained apartments, each individually styled to complement the building’s raw concrete, wood and marble finishes, these properties make a wonderful eco-friendly alternative to a traditional hotel stay.

Passivhaus is the green alternative

These serviced apartments also make a wonderful option for the eco-conscious holiday maker. Dine out amongst many of the funky restaurant options in the nearby Surry Hills area, or stay in and prepare a home cooked meal with the fully equipped kitchens, where no expense has been spared to include top of the range homewares from the likes of Scan Pan and Riedel.

If you are lucky enough to score one of the ground floor split level options, you’ll find yourself with an outdoor courtyard where you can sit out and enjoy the afternoon sun as it sets in the west. However, no matter which level or type of apartment you’ll be guaranteed an amazing night’s sleep thanks to then super comfy, fresh filtered air (no more blasting air con to keep cool!) and perfect silence thanks to the triple glazed windows throughout.

Room rates

Prices start at $180 a night and include unlimited WiFi, stocked pantries and entertainment options like Netflix and Stan as standard. With locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, they are fast becoming the go-to accommodation provider for the modern executive.
